MY Sports Club Story: Tony

As 2023 marks New York Sports Club’s 50th anniversary, we’re taking a moment to spotlight a dedicated member whose journey with NYSC has spanned over a decade. We’re excited to feature Tony in our MY Sports Club Story series. Tony is a passionate fitness enthusiast and an integral part of our vibrant NYSC community. He is sharing why he joined, his new-found passion for group fitness, and his advice to those looking to start their fitness journey at NYSC.

Which Club are you a member of and how long have you been a member of NYSC?
I have a passport membership so I move around but frequent the Astoria, Midtown, East 41st, Sunnyside, and Forest Hills locations. I have been a member since February 2013 so it has been over ten years!

Why did you decide to join?
Location, hours of operation, and consistent quality of the facilities. I first joined the Astoria Club as it was near my apartment and open late so I could work out even if I got off work later. I still find myself coming to this location after moving away eight years ago.

What is your favorite part about NYSC and what keeps you coming back?
The network of Clubs across the city and the class instructors. There are locations near my work in Manhattan and my home in Queens. Every class instructor has their own unique style so I don’t get bored even if I take the same class multiple times.

What is your favorite activity to do at NYSC?
The classes (specifically Yoga and Boxing) and weight lifting on my own. I never find a shortage of things to work on or new things to try.

Do you have a favorite memory at NYSC?
Despite having been a member for years, I only tried out the classes for the first time this past February. I signed up for Yoga to improve my hip mobility and was instantly hooked by the quality of the workout. I have been attending them regularly ever since.

What advice would you give someone looking to start their fitness journey at NYSC?
Definitely check out the group classes. The instructors can cater the workouts to accommodate different levels or injuries and provide a very friendly and welcoming environment.
