MY Sports Club Story: Angela

In honor of our 50th Anniversary, we’re shining the spotlight on some of our most loyal members in our MY Sports Club Series this month. Meet Angela, who has been part of our community for 13 incredible years. Discover how Angela found her passion in Cycling, the tight-knit community that makes her feel right at home and her valuable advice for anyone embarking on their fitness journey.

Join us in celebrating Angela and her remarkable ride with NYSC as we continue to honor 50 years of Improving Lives Through Fitness!

Which Club are you a member of and how long have you been a member of NYSC?
I have been a member of NYSC for about 13 years. I initially signed up at a different location, but with the passport membership, I spend most of my time in the White Plains location.

Why did you decide to join?
I was inspired to join by a friend of mine who made fitness her life. I joined because I wanted to better myself mentally and physically.

What is your favorite part about NYSC and what keeps you coming back?
My favorite part of NYSC is knowing I have somewhere to go no matter what kind of day I am having. I never feel judged because everyone who is there is there for the same reason and I have never felt more comfortable being in my own skin. I keep coming back because the staff are great and they really take the time to get to know each and every person who walks through the door!

What is your favorite activity to do at NYSC?
I love to spin! I feel that I work my hardest in a group class, especially with instructors who encourage and have great energy! I also love doing free weights. I’m learning that there is so much you can do with your body with just a few dumbbells.

Do you have a favorite memory at NYSC?
I would say my favorite memory of NYSC is when I took a spin class for the first time with my sister, and realized just how much I enjoyed it as well as how much work I needed to do. I also enjoyed personal training for those same reasons.

What advice would you give someone looking to start their fitness journey at NYSC?
For someone looking to start their journey, I would say don’t pressure yourself too much and too early on! Progress is not linear, and there will be some bad days, but don’t beat yourself up about it. There are so many resources out there. Take a class of some sort! Everyone who is there has a mission and you can always learn new techniques to get in shape. I have made some great friends as well. Sometimes, it’s all about finding a place to go to feel a sense of community, and you belong there!
