Laura, who is currently a GM of Columbia Heights, has been an integral part of the NYSC family for an astounding 35 years. From wearing various hats to her pivotal role in opening new facilities, Laura's impact on NYSC extends far beyond her day-to-day responsibilities. How long have you been part of the NYSC team?35 years!
What is your role and how has it evolved?
I’ve had the opportunity to work in over 12 different Club locations spanning our different regions in New York City, New Jersey, and Washington D.C. I credit my growth and sustainability in the company to always learning from the people surrounding me on my team as well as my passion to share that knowledge by training and developing people for positions of higher responsibility. During my 35 years at the organization, I have worked as a General Manager (GM), Cluster Manager, Business Manager, Mentor Manager, and Master GM. I began on the Welcome Team of the former 86th and Lexington location in 1988 and was quickly promoted to a Front Desk Manager. During my time I was challenged with opening new facilities and assisted in location takeovers. This company has taught me invaluable skills and allowed me to grow in both my professional and personal career.
What is your favorite part about NYSC?
My favorite thing about NYSC is that there are an abundance of opportunities for pursuing your personal goals, and health and fitness goals. The culture is inclusive and welcoming to everyone whether you are looking for growth opportunities within the company or just looking for a clean and safe environment to work out in.
How has the brand evolved during your time here?
The brand itself has undergone different names from Town Sports International Health and Racquet Sports Club, to NYSC, BSC, WSC, PSC, to currently having all of our “brands” and Clubs under one unified brand, stronger together as New York Sports Club (regardless of geographical location).
Do you have a favorite memory at NYSC?
My most memorable times include when the company makes the employees feel so valued. For me personally, my most rewarding memory was in 2011 when I received the outstanding award for the highest year over year growth in the company in the 1st and 3rd quarter.
